HARRIS, N.C. -- One person was killed in a boating accident on Badin Lake Thursday afternoon, according to Stanly County EMS. Authorities said the single-boat accident happened around 11:30 a.m. Thursday on Badin Lake near Palmerville and Beach Roads in Harris. North Carolina Wildlife officials released the cause of Thursday’s deadly boat accident on Badin Lake. Officials said the driver of the boat, 48-year-old James Mark McDowell, lost control after something hit him in the eye. Judges deny appeal for Demeatrius Montgomery

Demeatrius Montgomery will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing two Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers. The North Carolina Court of Appeals released its opinion Tuesday morning, denying Montgomery's appeal and saying his arguments had no merit.
